He had been seriously ill for a month and had been in the hospital a few days. He was the son of Jordon and Sarah Cook Winslow, born Oct. 26, 1879 at Salem, Iowa. He had been seriously ill for a month and had been in the hospital a few days. He was the son of Jordon and Sarah Cook Winslow, born Oct. 26, 1879 at Salem, Iowa. His age at the time of his death was 68 years, 8 months and 21 days. He grew to manhood in the vicinity of Birmingham and was married to Sadie Troette on Oct. 14, 1897 at Fairfield. She preceded him in death on Sept. 28, 1947. Mr. Winslow spent most of his life on farms between Birmingham and Fairfield and was well known in both communities. He was a quiet and unassuming man and numbered his friends by his acquaintances. His greatest satisfaction was in accomplishing a difficult job in the trade as a carpenter. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by four brothers, Volney, Alvin, Elmer and William, and he was the last of the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Jordon Winslow; also sisters, Mrs. Mary Robison and Mrs. Lena Hootman. He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Vena Speer, Rock Island, Ill., Mrs. Faye Power, Palisade, Colo., Mrs. Mildred Ireland, Moline, Ill. and Louise Winslow, Fairfield; three sons, Arthur, Eugene and Ned, all of Fairfield. He is also survived by a sister, Mrs. Eva Scott, Des Moines, nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Sunday, July 18, at 2 p.m. at the Birmingham Presbyterian church with the Rev. H. C. Irvine officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill cemetery at Birmingham. Pallbearers were friends, Ray Cornell, Vern Hall, Robert Johnston, Frank Cornell, Clyde Hall and Milford Hedger. Source: Van Buren Co.
