Description	:	Born in New York, Eli Franklin was the first known child born to Thomas Franklin and Hannah Sibley. When Eli was young, the family went to Ohio, and settled in Warren County around 1817. On 27 July 1830, Eli married Nelly Chenoweth, and moved to Allen County, shortly after. At least 7 children were born to Eli and Nelly: James, Hannah, Lewis, William, Nathaniel, Jane, and Eli. Son Nathaniel died in Cincinnati, during his service in the Civil War. Eli died in 1863, and Nelly died in 1873. -- obituary: Lima Gazette, (Lima, Ohio) March 18, 1863- One day last week Mr. Eli Franklin, a citizen of Perry township died very suddenly of apoplexy. Mr. Franklin had been enjoying his usual health up to the day of his death, and during the day he went out to look after his cattle, but not returning as promptly as expected, his friends went in search and found him just alive, but unable to speak. He was at once conveyed to a house near by and lived but a short time. Mr. Franklin has lost two sons in the army in the war commenced and a large family still survive him. -- The two sons who died were Nathanial, who died of disease in the service in 1862, and Lewis, who was killed in Tennessee. -- Allen Co.
