Allen were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Calvary Methodist church following a family service in the home at 1:30 o'clock. The Rev. J.G. Waterman was in charge of both services. The singers at the funeral were Sam Swedlund, Mrs. E.J. Bergquist, Mrs. E.J. Johnson and A.T. Johnson. They sang "They'll be No Disappointment in Heaven," "Going Down the Valley" and "In the Sweet Bye and Bye." Mrs. Ronald Bell played the piano accompaniments. The pallbearers were Albert Hubner of Cedar Rapids, E.H. Hawbaker, W.R. Holstrum, E.F. Erickson, Earl Richardson, H.F. Lundquist. Eli Sabin Allen, son of Samuel and Eliza Allen who were pioneer settlers of Dayton township, Webster county, was born northeast of Dayton, Aug. 4, 1869, and died at his home in Stratford, Dec. 19, 1944, at the age of 75 years, 4 months, 15 days. He was united in marriage with Sarah Alice Landreth on Dec. 31, 1891 and three children were born of this union. They are: Mrs. Olga Kopp of Dayton and Mrs. Velva Bransfield, of Providence, R.I., and a son, Sylvester, who died in infancy. The first seven years of their married life was spent on farms in Dayton and Clay townships, Webster county. In 1898 they moved to a farm in Yell township where they lived until they retired from active farming in 1926 and moved into Stratford which had since been the home of deceased. His health failed about two years ago and since then he had spent much of his time very quietly in his home. He had been a member of the local lodge of Masons for many years and got a great deal of enjoyment out of that membership. Mrs. Allen preceded him in death on June 2, 1941. Besides his two daughters he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Fred Marsh of Eagle Grove and Miss Jennie Allen of Dayton, and six grandchildren, Earl Kopp, who is with an aviation corps in the Pacific, Miss Dorothy, of Adel, Duane, Bernard, Darwin and Donald Kopp, all of this community. He leaves a host of friends who will mourn his departure.
