Thursday, July 19, 1900, page 5. Ray Stevens, the nine-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Stevens of this city, died Saturday evening under distressing circumstances. One day last week he was amusing himself in the haymow of his father's barn, together with a playmate, when he sprang from the ladder leading there to and alighted with one foot on a nail that protruded through a board lying near by. The wound thereby inflicted did not at first seem serious, but in a couple days became quite painful and lock-jaw subsequently set in. All that medical and surgical skill could do afforded no relief and death finally ended the life of the little sufferer. Mr. Stevens was away from home in Kansas and Oklahoma at the time of the occurrence, and all efforts to reach him by telegram was unavailing. When he arrived home Sunday afternoon he was almost heartbroken to find his only son lying dead in the family home. Funeral services were held this afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Christian church, Rev. H. J.
