Read More	Died at Walkerton The death occurred at Walkerton on Wednesday morning last of a another well known resident of Port Elgin in the person of Mrs John Hilker, who succumbed to an extensive stroke of paralysis which she suffered that morning in her 50th year. Mrs Hilker had been in her usual apparent good health and had returned Monday from Toronto, where she had been visiting friends and relatives for a few days. On Wednesday morning well getting out of bed, about 8 o clock, she was overcome with a paralytic seizure and collapsing to the floor continued in an unconscious state until the end, which came a few hours later at 11:30 a.m..The late Mrs Hilker, whose maiden name was Elizabeth Ann Baker, was born at the mountain, Goderich road south, being the eldest daughter of the second family of the late Daniel Baker, her mother being the late Mary Muir. In June 1889, she was wedded in Toronto to Mr John Hilker of Port Elgin and after a residence here of fifteen years they moved to Southampton in 1904 and after a brief residence there, they moved to Eden Grove and twenty two years ago moved to Walkerton where Mr Hilker has since been section foreman for the C.N.R.. Of the family of nine children, six are left to mourn, namely: (Myrtle) Mrs James Young, (Viola) Mrs C Weingart of Walkerton, Mable, Gwendoline and Bernice at home and Gladys of Toronto, who together with her sorrowing husband have the heart felt sympathy of their friends here. Deceased is also survived by a sister, Mrs George Brill of Port Elgin and a half brother Mr John Baker of Saugeen. The remains were brought to Port Elgin on Saturday afternoon and following an impressive service in the United Church were laid to rest in the family plot in the cemetery here. Among those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr and Mrs Fred Hodge and Mr and Mrs Louis Nigh of Toronto, Mr and Mrs Edwin Atkinson, Mr and Mrs Thomas Donald, Mr and Mrs Harold Hodge, all of Toronto and a beautiful sheaf from the International Baker Heirs Association. The pall-bearers were; Messrs, Wm Hilker, Adam Cairns, Norman Cairns, O Gingrich, Geo Brill and Chas Kettles. Bruce Co newspaper archives
