Elizabeth Bartram Holzworth was born on Aug. 13, 1899 in Middle Grove,Ill., the daughter of Ralph Bartram and Elizabeth Anderson. Elizabeth lived in Illinois until her fifth-grade year in 1910, when the Bartram family moved to Stoneham. Elizabeth attended high school in Sterling, and at age 18, after passing the required teacher's examination, taught all eight grades at small rural schools near Stoneham. She married Cliff Holzworth in 1920, and they had a son, Keith Clifford (K.C.), in 1925. They farmed southeast of Stoneham. Elizabeth had completed a portion of her college education, and at the death of her husband in 1930, began teaching at the newly-consolidated Stoneham School District. Elizabeth continued to attend summer school at the Colorado Teachers' College in Greeley (now the University of Northern Colorado), receiv ing her bachelor's degree in education in 1939. Elizabeth and her young son lived with Elizabeth's parents on their farm, and Elizabeth continued to live with her parents and care for them until her mother's death in 1960, and her father's death in 1962. She then moved to her house in Stoneham, where she lived until Oct. 27, of this year, when she moved to an apartment at Devonshire Acres in Sterling. With the consolidation of Stoneham and New Raymer area schools to form the Prairie School District in 1964, Elizabeth became the high school social studies teacher there, until her retire ment in 1969. Her teaching career lasted for 45 years. She continued to substitute teach at Prairie for several more years after her retirement. Elizabeth enjoyed both reading and travel, and made many trips with family and friends across the United States, attended World's Fairs, and at age 80, took an extensive tour of her ancestral homes, England and Scotland, plus Ireland. Elizabeth was very active in her church, Chapel of the Plains at Stoneham, and was the Sunday school secretary until just five years ago. She was also a member of the Royal Neighbor Lodge. Elizabeth is survived by her son K.C. and his wife Jo; her four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren: Debra, married to Lendyl "Jim" Walker, and their two children, Colby, and Kasey Jo, married to Dan Warner; Tina, married to Bret McEndaffer, and their two daughters, Britt and Blair; Kendra, married to Bryce Carlson, and their three children, McKenzi, Drew Elizabeth, and Cooper; and Ken Holzworth, married to Jaylyn Littlefield, and their two children, Madison and Trenton; her three sisters, Edith Reagan of Sterling, Arlene Baggley of Fort Mor gan, and Luella Willich of Denver, and her brother Ralph "Bud" Bartram of Sterling. She was preceded in death by her husband Cliff and her sister Edna Sandstedt. Memorial contributions may to made to Chapel of the Plains.
