Published in The Rochester Sentinel Friday, December 6, 1895 The whole community two miles southwest of Rochester was greatly shocked and grieved when the news spread among the people in that neighborhood that Mrs. James PYLE, widow of James PYLE, Sr., had dropped dead last Saturday afternoon, while temporarily at the residence of her son, Charles [PYLE], near by her own home. It was only last Thanksgiving evening that over sixty of her friends and relatives had gathered at her residence as a surprise party, and to do her honor. It was little thought then by that happy throng of people that the congratulations and festivities of the evening would so soon be succeeded by the solmneties of death, the grief of a host of friends and the overwhelming sorrow of a devoted family of children. A house of mirth was all too soon turned into a house or mourning. It was known to a good many outside the immediate family circle that the deceased had for some time had been afflicted with heart disease, but lately she seemed so much better that the alarm of her family and friends had been greatly allayed, and a hope existed that she would ultimately recover. But this hope only served to illustrate the truth of the adage that "man proposed but God disposes." She fell a victim of the disease. While sitting on a chair she suddenly fell to the floor, gave a few gasps for breath and in a moment her spirit had taken flight to the God who gave it. She died almost without a struggle and after death had claimed her as his victim, looked as thought she had only fallen into a restful and peaceful slumber. The deceased was born in Kentucky but principally raised in Ohio. She was married to James PYLE at Springfield, Ohio in February 1847, and came to this county in the fall of 1849 and settled on the farm two miles southwest of town, where she has resided ever since. At the time of the death of Mrs. Pyle she was 72 years 3 months and ten days old. A family of seven children survive her, namely: John H PYLE, of Akron, Mrs. Dora GOSS and Mrs. Emma L. BIBLER of Rochester, Mrs. W. GOSS three miles southwest of town, and Stephen, Oliver and Charles [PYLE], who reside on the home farm. The deceased was not a member of any church, but she represented in a pure and unselfish life, in a broad charity and deep sympathy for the distressed and needy, nearly every virtue and Christian principle, found in any one, or for that matter all the different religious denominations. In the long life she has lived there never was a word spoken against her. The whole circle of her large acquaintance admired her for her untiring and unselfish devotion to duty, her admirable qualities as a neighbor and friend and her sterling worth as a woman. The sick found in her a sympathizing friend, the needy a hand to help, a devoted and affectionate mother, and the world an example of genuine worth and true womanhood.
