Description	:	Sidney Argus-Herald April 2, 1936 "A Pioneer Called"--Elizabeth Ellis was born at Greensburg, Pennsylvania, December 22, l845, where she lived until she was married to William James Porter December 31, l863, leaving there in 1868. The journey at that time was made by boat in a pioneer manner and terminated at Keokuk. From there moved to Missouri for a short period, later locating at Sidney in 1873 where they resided the remainder of their years. They united with the Presbyterian church in December 1881. She was a faithful worker in all activities of the church and attended church and Sunday school as... Read More	Sidney Argus-Herald April 2, 1936 "A Pioneer Called"--Elizabeth Ellis was born at Greensburg, Pennsylvania, December 22, l845, where she lived until she was married to William James Porter December 31, l863, leaving there in 1868. The journey at that time was made by boat in a pioneer manner and terminated at Keokuk. From there moved to Missouri for a short period, later locating at Sidney in 1873 where they resided the remainder of their years. They united with the Presbyterian church in December 1881. She was a faithful worker in all activities of the church and attended church and Sunday school as long as her health would permit. In her younger days she was ready with a helping hand to administer to the sick, a good neighbor and a true friend and loving mother. Mr. Porter died August 28, 1918. Mrs. Porter's death occurred March 24, l936, at the advanced age of 90 years, 3 months, and 2 days. To this union were born 11 children: Alice May, John, Nancie, Charley, Harry and Robert who passed to the great beyond preceding their mother. There remain to mourn the loss of their mother: Lizzie Belle Sligar of Tacoma, Washington; Kate Ellien Simons and W. J., Eva Bobbitt and Ellis Porter of Sidney; twenty-one grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. Rev. R.Q. Ludy had charge of the funeral services, conducted from the Presbyterian church Friday afternoon. Interment in Sidney cemetery.
