Funeral services were held from the Devaney Funeral Home Tuesday morning, November 22, 1960, at 9:30 a.m. to St. Martin's church. The pastor, The Rev. Daniel O'Sullivan, offered the Requiem High Mass and delivered the sermon. Present in the sanctuary was the Rev. Leon Connolly of Dubuque. A daughter of William and Catherine Tully Gavin, Elizabeth Frances, was born at Cascade on October 23, 1863. She was united in Holy Matrimony with Jeremiah Callaghan November 16, 1892. Mr. Callaghan died April 25, 1943. Following their marriage the young couple engaged in farming in North Garryowen which was to continue to be their home until the passing of Mr. Callaghan in 1943 when Mrs. Callaghan came to live with her daughter, Mrs. Henry Hughes, South from Cascade. Surviving her passing are one son, Eugene, of Bernard, and two daughters, Mrs. Henry (Marcella) Hughes, of Cascade, and Mrs. Herman (Alice) Morrison, also of Cascade, one brother, James Gavin, of Davenport, 28 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren. Casket bearers, all grandsons of the deceased were, Lee Morrison, Ronald, Lawrence and Maurice Callahan, Milton and Loras Hughes. Among the grandchildren attending the wake and funeral of Mrs. Callaghan were, Miss Myrl Morrison, Cedar Rapids; Mrs. James Heddin, Lansing, Mich.; Mrs. Ed. Kirley, Madison, Wisc; Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Callahan, Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Roger Callahan, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Burke and Mr. and Mrs. Phil Callahan, all of Waterloo; Loras Hughes, Iowa City; Roland Morrison, Chicago, Ill.; Atty. and Mrs. A. E. Hughes, Dubuque.
