The deceased was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gavin and she was born in Washington township, Jones county, Iowa, July 7, 1847. She was among the first children born in that section, her parents having been among the pioneer settlers of that part of the county. She remained at the old homestead until her 20th year when she was married to Hugh Dixon on July 20, 1867, but as Mr. Dixon resided in Washington township, she continued to live in the same township for practically 80years, having removed to Cascade a few years ago. Mr. Dixon died December 10, 1904. Mrs. Dixon is survived by three daughters: Elizabeth; Mary Alice; Mrs. Ellen Chapman of Peosta; and four sons, Daniel, Patrick, James and Hugh. She is also survived by one brother and five sisters, James Gavin, of Cascade; Mrs. Mary Leonard and Miss Lucy Gavin, of Dubuque; Mrs. Michael Crotty, of Hopkinton; Mrs. Theresa Dolphin and Mrs. Jerry Callahan, of Cascade, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, her daughters Theresa and Catherine, and sons, Charles and John Dixon. The funeral services were held from the residence to St. Martin's church, Saturday, August 16th, at 9 o'clock a.m., Rev. T. Rooney officiating. The pallbearers were J. T. Lehner, John Tallman, Frank Takes, C. J. Devlin, William Stanton and M. B. McQuillen.
