Irene B McCurdy (b. 1868 IA, d. 1930-1940 CA) ------------------------------------------------ Gone to Join Her Husband in the Great Beyond After an illness of but a few short days, Mrs. Elizabeth Scott died at her home in this city last Monday October 18, 1909. Mrs. Scott had just returned from a visit to two of her sons, Geo. H. Scott of Council Bluffs, and Thad Scott of Aurora and arrived home last Wednesday October 13 apparently in good health, but she contracted a cold on arriving here and being troubled with Asthma and fatigued from her trip, it proved fatal and she died at Two o'clock p. m. last Monday. Elizabeth Hardy was born in Jordon New York, May 3rd (sic), 1827. She attended school at the seminary at Little Falls, New York, and was married to George H. Scott April 6, 1852, three years after they moved to Dwight, Illinois, and lived there till 1880 when they moved to this county and resided on a farm on Davis Creek in the north part of this county. In 1893 they purchased a home in Loup City and moved to town. There was born to them nine children seven of whom survive them. Namely, J. R. Scott, of Perry, Oklahoma, L. G. Scott, Sebastopal, Calif., Thadeus M. Scott, Aurora, Nebraska, George H. Scott, Council Bluffs, Iowa, Mrs. Lucy Finch and Mrs. Katie Kettle, North Loup, and Mrs. Iona Sharp of this city. Father Scott, husband of the deceased, died April 13, 1903. Grandma Scott was a faithful follower of the blessed Savior she having been converted in childhood and joined the Methodist church of which she was a faithful member all her life, which makes her reward all the more blessed. To her, the struggle and burden bearing of earth is ended, we confidently trust that like one who awakes from a troubled dream she awakened to see lifes (sic) endless morning break and knows herself at home with all the vast throng of loved ones, especially a loving husband, missed from earth, safe above her. .... The funeral services were conducted from the methodist church yesterday at two p. m. Rev. Harper preaching the funeral service after which she was laid to rest in the evergreen cemetery besides her husbands (sic) grave. Her children were all present but L. G. Scott of Seabastopal, California who could not be present on account of sickness, and George Scott of Council Bluffs, Iowa, who was moving his family west and could not be reached in time.
