Jennie Goodrich, daughter of Andrew and Margaret Goodrich, was born in Warren county, Ia., August 26, 1869 and departed this life on October 16, 1939 at her home in Chariton, Iowa, where she had resided for almost thirty years, she having reached the age of 70 years, 1 month and 20 days. She had been in failing health for some time, but was able to be about and perform many duties around the home until she was stricken with paralysis only a few hours before her death. On December 1, 1886, she was united in marriage to Charles Newton Welch at Indianola, Ia. To this union was born one daughter, Ora, who became the wife of Hal Arnold and who preceded her parents in death on April 25, 1929. Mr. Welch passed to the Great Beyond, September 26, 1930. Mrs. Welch was a member of the Christian Union church at Bethel Chapel for a number of years, and was always found to be a faithful and willing worker for the church and anything that came about to make out community better. She was a member of bethel Chapel Aid society where she was always ready to do her duty. She was a loyal neighbor, a true friend and was deeply devoted to her home and loved ones. And for her kindness, her cheery disposition and the life she lived among us may we ever remember her. She leaves to mourn her passing, a son-in-;law Hal Arnold, four grandchildren, Lowell Arnold of Chariton, Mrs. Twila Anderson and husband of Norwood, Mrs. Oma Leeps and husband, Lester Arnold and wife of Osceola, and six great grandchildren, one sister Mrs. Anna Welch of Woodburn; one brother-in-law, William Welch of Chariton; several nieces and nephews, and other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral services were conducted at Bethel Chapel on Wednesday afternoon, October 18, by Rev. N. D. Gordon of Indianola. Burial in Bethel Cemetery. Music and singing was by Mr. and Mrs. Ben Lynn. Pallbearers were nephews: Walter and Joe Welch, Lloyd and Cecil Welch, Andy Goodrich and we did not learn the other name. Beardsley of Chariton had charge of burial. Just a thought of sweet Remembrance, just a memory fond and true, just a token of affection, and a heartache still for you. Just a sign for the golden moments, just a smile of love anew, just a tear in silence falling, and a yearning just for you.
