She was 90. Born in Baltimore on Oct. 4, 1910, she was the daughter of the late Joseph William and Margaret Ries Kohn. She grew up in Baltimore and moved to Cordova with her family in 1925. On Feb. 28, 1926, she married Alexander James Helmer Sr. and lived the rest of her life in Cordova. She was a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker who enjoyed being with her family. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a charter and life member of the Cordova Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary. Mr. Helmer died in January 1984. Mrs. Helmer is survived by a son, Alexander Helmer Jr., and his wife, Bette, of Federalsburg; a son, Joseph Helmer and his wife, Pamela, of Cordova; a daughter, Margaret Edmunds of Fort Collins, Colo.; two sisters, Madeline Wilson of Deland, Fla., and Theresa Skinner of Annapolis; 11 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. Three brothers, Joseph Reese, Matthew Kohn and Anton Kohn, and a grandson, Michael Harding, are deceased. Friends may call at Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, Easton, on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. with a Recitation of the Rosary beginning at 8:30 p.m. Burial will be at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. The six grandsons will serve as pallbearers while members of the Cordova Volunteer Fire Department will serve as honorary pallbearers.
