Haller on April 14th while at the home of her son, Peter Haller, near Culbertson, Neb., with whom and other children residing in Hitchcock county, she had been spending the winter. Mrs. Haller was taken ill some four weeks ago with leakage of the heart and suffered a great deal during the time of her illness but patiently and uncomplainingly bore her affliction. Mrs. Haller was taken ill some four weeks ago with leakage of the heart and suffered a great deal during the time of her illness but patiently and uncomplainingly bore her affliction. She had reached a ripe old age and had enjoyed robust health all the years of her life. Mr. and Mrs. Haller were among the early settlers in the Plainview vicinity south of Bladen where they resided on a farm which is now occupied by their son, Frank Haller. A short funeral service was held at the home of her son, Peter Haller, on April 15th, conducted by Father Roach of McCook, and the remains, accomplanied by the family, were taken to Blue Hill where funeral services and high mass was held, conducted by Father Welk of Blue Hill, on the day following, and interment was made in the Blue Hill cemetery beside her husband who preceded her April 12, 1920. Oldtime neighbors and friends extend sincere sympathy to the family in their loss of mother--the one whose place can never be filled. Elizabeth L. Hess, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell Hess, was born in Louisville, Ky., April 25, 1842, died April 14, 1924, aged 81 years, 11 months and 11 days. At the age of four years she moved with her parents to Muscatine, Ia., where she grew to womanhood and in 1863 at the age of nineteen she was united in marriage to Mr. Chas. B. Haller and to this union eleven children were born, three having passed on. After their marriage they resided only about one year in Muscatine then moved to Chicago where they lived some five years, then moved to Campaign, Ill., and resided for a short while, then moved to Kankakee, Ill., then later to a farm near Union Hill, Ill. After a residence there lasting only a few years they moved to Webster county, Nebraska, and located on a farm four miles south and one mile west of Bladen, in which they developed from a raw prairie into a very fine and productive farm and where they raised a family of eight children who have contributed their share toward the development of the community and Webster county. In 1912 Mr. and Mrs. Haller retired from the farm and moved to Blue Hill to make their home where Mr. Haller passed away April 12, 1920. Since that time Mrs. Haller has made her home with her children here and in Hitchcock county. Mrs. Haller became a member of the Catholic church while a child and remained faithful to the end, her membership being at Blue Hill, Neb. She was a loving mother, always devoting her time to her family whose interests were first in her heart, and to whom the memory of mother will always remain fragrant in heart and mind. She leaves to mourn her departure eight children, four boys and four girls, Chas., and Peter Haller of Culbertson; John Haller, Beverly, Nebr.; Frank Haller of Bladen; Mrs. Anna Berns, Bladen; Mrs. Josephine Holverson, Red Cloud; Mrs. Mary Copley, Culbertson; Mrs. Regina Carr, Kansas City, Mo., and 44 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
