WIELAND - Mrs. Elizabeth Wieland, one of the pioneers of this part of the state, passed away in the hospital at Carroll at 3:45 on the morning of Saturday, March 9th. She had been in frail health for several years back and during the past winter had been under the care of Mrs. W.C. St. Clair. A week ago her condition made it necessary for her to be taken to the hospital at Carroll where she died of the infirmities of age. Funeral services for Mrs. Wieland were held at St. Lawrence church in Carroll at nine o'clock Monday morning by Father Bausch who read the Requiem Mass. Beautifully appropriate music was sung by the children's choir of St. Lawrence church. The men officiating as bearers were: Floyd Parkinson, Karl Staab, John Batie, Rudy Stark, Ed Quinn and Jerry Bruns. Interment was made at St. Peter and Pauls cemetery at Carroll beside her husband who preceded her in death. Elizabeth Ritchie Andre was born the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jonathon Andre on January 10, 1844 at Dunganon, Ohio. On October 7th, 1862 she was married to J.J. Wieland and in 1863 the young couple came to Richmond, Iowa. In 1867 they moved to Carroll where the family made their home for about sixty years. About fourteen years ago Mrs. Wieland came to Lake View to make her home with her son Ed Wieland and remained there until about five months ago when her failing health made it necessary to move her to the home of Mrs. C.M. St. Clair. One week ago she was taken to the hospital at Carroll where on the morning of Saturday, March 9, she died of age after 96 years, 1 month and 28 days of a long and useful life. Mrs. Wieland was the gentle, patient mother of eleven children. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1920 and by six children, Leonard, Nettie, Mary, Bessie, Francis and Harry. Five children and 12 grandchildren remain to mourn the loss of a good mother and a fine grandmother. Those who survive are: Anna B. of Lake View, Chas J. of St. Louis, George (Bert) of Prentice, Wis., (who was unable to attend the funeral) Will J. and Edward O. Wieland of Lake View.
