Read More	Len was the son of John J Wieland and Elizabeth Andre. He married Mae Thompson (daughter of James Thompson of and Julia Day) on February 13, 1917 at Tama, Iowa. He had cancer of the throat. Jan 4, 1928 - Carroll Times - Leonard S. Wieland died at the St. Anthony hospital Sunday morning, January 1, 1928, at 6:20 o'clock. Deceased had been in poor health for over a year. He was taken to the hospital the evening of December 31, where an operation was performed which gave him temporary relief from a malignant malady with which he became afflicted in July, 1926. Death came peacefully the following morning and his passing is mourned not just by the family but by countless friends. In October, 1926, Mr. Wieland accompanied by Mrs. Wieland, left for Chicago where they spent eight months. During this time Mr. Wieland was taking treatments from the best specialists in the city. While from the first it was known that his recovery would be doubtful, everything was done to correct the trouble and to restore his health. The treatments were trying but he bore them with remarkable courage and fortitude and during his entire illness was a cheerful, uncomplaining patient, always looking to the day when he had conquered the disease. Mr. and Mrs. Wieland returned from the city in June and spent the summer as customary at Lakewood Park, Lake View. During the summer he held his own and was gaining, but three weeks ago alarming conditions arose and he was hastened to his doctors in Chicago. He returned home but failed noticeably until his death. He remained hopeful until the end and was in cheerful spirits. While he could not speak after the operation he wrote a "Happy New Year" to the family, at midnight, with the arrival of the new year. Leonard S. Wieland was born in Richmond, Ia., June 30, 1871, and was the son of the late John Wieland and Mrs. Wieland. His parents moved to Carroll while he was a young boy and he grew to manhood in this city. In 1898 he left for New York City where he remained for 16 years, returning to Carroll in 1913 to be associated in business at Lakewood with his sister, Miss Anna B. Wieland and brothers. He was married at Tama February 13, 1917, to Miss Mae Thompson of Carroll, and their married life was ideally happy. After their marriage they located in Pontiac, Illinois, where Mr. Wieland went into the automobile business. Six years ago they returned to Carroll and have since been at Lakewood where Mr. Wieland was associated with the other members of the family in conducting this popular resort. Len Wieland, as he was known by all his friends, was one of those energetic, cordial men whom it is a pleasure to meet. He was never too busy for a word of greeting and was a most sincere and dependable friend. He was full of hope and plans for the future and even when suffering pain was able to smile to those he loved. He was raised a Catholic and it was in this faith he died, funeral services being held Tuesday morning, January 3, at the St. Lawrence church, this city. Interment was made in the Carroll cemetery. Besides his wife the surviving ones are his mother, Mrs. John Wieland o£ this city, Charles Wieland of St. Louis; Anna B. Wieland, Will Wieland, Edward Wieland and Bert Wieland of Lakewood Park, Lake View. His father died in this city November 15, 1920, and his sister, Bessie, died in Carroll Easter Sunday, April 12, 1925. Those from a distance who arrived to attend the funeral were Charles Wieland of St. Louis; Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Vernon of Chicago; and Ward Thompson of Denver.
