Description	:	Birth Family Ella was the daughter of Robert J. Kerle and Ingober Mary Jacobson. Robert and Ingober were married on 15 Aug 1878 in Madison County, Nebraska. In 1880, Robert, Ingelbugh, and daughter, Amelia C, were residing in Shell Creek, Boone, Nebraska, where Robert was engaged in farming. The family remained in Shell Creek at the time of the 1885 and 1900 census. Amelia was no longer at home, but siblings Joseph Hans, Minnie L., Ella E., and Clara were still living with their parents. Mary Engeber in 1900. immigrated ca 1869 and married ca 1878. Mother of 5 children with all five still living in 1900. Was commonly using the name Mary from at least 1885 and forward. In 1940, enumerated in Spade Township, Knox, Nebraska where he was sharing a home with his aunt, Caroline Halverson ( mother's sister / widowed). It appears he never married. Has been in the state of SD for 4 years. Lutheran faith. Father b England and mother in Norway. Minnie appears as Minnie Hamilton in Lake Preston, Kingsbury, South Dakota per 1920 US census. She is widowed and has her three children sharing the home. Present in DeSmet, Kingsbury, SD in 1925. This is where her mother and husband are buried. She owned her own home and was working as a laborer at this time. The children are all with her. The three currently known children of John Hamilton and Minnie Kerl are: Son, Melvin Hamilton, b ca 1911 in Iowa Daughter, Janet Hamilton, # 26179355, b 07 Nov 1914 in Kingsbury, South Dakota. John William Hamilton, # 56868939, b 01 Jul 1919 in South Dakota and d 03 Mar 1997 in Sacramento, California. By 1935, Minnie has remarried to surname Miller and is residing in Spirit Lake, Kingsbury, South Dakota. This state census record has her marriage year as 1925. In 1910, a widowed Mary, her children Joseph, Minnie, and Clara, and her nephew, (Frank) Magnus Clayton (youngest son of Mary's daughter, Amelia, and Frank Clayton) had relocated to Houston, Houston, Minnesota to apparently be close to other family members. I believe Magnus may have been the son of Frank Clayton and Mary's deceased daughter, Alemia (Emelia / Emilia). Marriage and Family In 1910, a widowed Frank Clayton appears with 5 of his children in Shell Creek in 1910. His youngest child is one year old Frank M. Clayton (whom I mentioned may be Magnus Clayton previously), which would appear to indicate that Frank lost his wife, Amelia, not long before the census was taken. By 1930, Frank and Ella were residing with the Enoch and Nellie Halverson family in Fullerton, Nance, Nebraska. I do note that the Clayton - Halverson conection may be related via the Kerl side of the family. Ella's maternal aunt was Caroline Halverson.
