Description	:	Birth Family: Amelia (Emelia) C. Kerle Clayton appears to have been the first born child of Robert and Mary Kerle. In 1880 and 1885, Amelia and her birth family were residents of Shell Creek, Boone, Nebraska, where her father was engaged in farming. In 1900, the couple and their family were residents of Shell Creek Precinct, Boone, Nebraska. According to family member Sharon Clayton Yates, Amelia bled to death at her home in Newman Grove, Boone, Nebraska as a result of an apparent accident in her kitchen. Note: Amelia's mother appears as Ingelbugh M Kerle in 1880, Mary Kerle in 1885, Mary Engeber Kerle in 1900. Note: Amelia appears as Amelia C Kerle in 1880, Emilia Kerle in 1885, Emelia C Clayton in 1900. Note: Reference Amelia's husband, Frank. According to family member Sharon Clayton Yates, later census records indicating that Frank was born in Iowa are not correct. Neither did Frank arrive to Nebraska on the orphan train, as was believed by family members in the past. Ms Yates goes on to say that Frank was actually born in Virginia and was the son of Beverly Clayton (b VA), who was a person of African descent, and an unidentified mother who was likely white or Native American. Ultimately, Frank and his younger brother, Thomas, were sent to Fairmont, Marion, West Virginia to work, and were residing in the home of Festus Fleming. It was apparently here that Thomas died prior to 1880. **********************************************
