Green Ella McGaw was born in Jefferson county, Iowa, Oct. 16, 1863. She was a daughter of Henry and Elizabeth Park McGaw. On the 6th day of April 1882 she was united in marriage with Charles Wesley Green. The first 38 years of their married life was spent on a farm in Buchanan township, five years ago they retired from the farm, taking up their abode in Fairfield, where they have since resided. Mrs. Green had been in poor health for several years. Since last February her health gradually declined and she passed to her reward at 10:15 p.m. Oct. 28th at the age of 62 years and 12 days. She is survived by her husband and one brother, Hugh McGaw residing near Fairfield. One sister passed away in 1918. In early life she was converted and united with the M. E. church at Richwoods. When the family left the farm she transferred her membership to First M. E. church in Fairfield. She was a faithful soldier of the cross ready at all times to do her duty and make necessary sacrifices. The funeral services conducted by Rev. T. S. Pool of Mt. Pleasant were held at the family residence 603 North Main street at 2:00 p. m. Saturday Oct. 31st, attended by a large company of relatives and friends. Interment was made at the Evergreen cemetery." Fairfield Ledger Tues., Nov. 3, 1925, 5-1. --------- Note: The name of the father was James Henry McGaw. The memorial made by another contributor for his burial plot at Lower Richwoods Cemetery in Jefferson County refers to him as Henry J McGaw. --------- Note: Ella May McGaw Green and Hugh Lee McGaw were siblings. They are buried in the same plot. In this photo showing two headstones, the smaller one to the left of the Green monument is for Hugh Lee McGaw.
