Helena Almquist, nee Anderson, was born in Berstig Parish, Vestergotlan, Sweden, July 8, 1853, and passed on to her heavenly reward on February 26, 1932 at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 18 days. She arrived in America from her native land in 1873 and was united to Mr. John Almquist in holy matrimony on January 10, 1874. To this union were born eleven children, five girls and six boys.... Helena Almquist, nee Anderson, was born in Berstig Parish, Vestergotlan, Sweden, July 8, 1853, and passed on to her heavenly reward on February 26, 1932 at the age of 78 years, 7 months, and 18 days. She arrived in America from her native land in 1873 and was united to Mr. John Almquist in holy matrimony on January 10, 1874. To this union were born eleven children, five girls and six boys. All living and were present at their mother's bedside during her last short illness. Shortly after their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Almquist settled on a farm in Fremont, Page County, Iowa, where they remained until the year of 1907, when they moved to Essex, Iowa. Left to mourn her going are; her affectionate husband and the children, Charley, Oscar, Joseph, Albert, and David Almquist, Mrs. Emil Tillman and Mrs. Frank Brown, all of Essex, Eddie Almquist, Anna Peterson, Mrs. Clarence Brown, and Mrs. Roy Lindberg, all of Shenandoah, two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Erickson of Spencer, Iowa and Mrs. Teckla Johnson of Elgin, Nebraska, also 33 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, other relatives and many friends. Mrs. Almquist was a loving mother and affectionate friend, who was ever mindful of her children's welfare. Her funeral took place Sunday last, from the home at one p.m. and at the Essex Mission Church at 1:30 p.m. her own pastor, Rev. H. Hultman officiating. The services were very largely attended and the entire crowd could not be accommodated. The floral were many and beautiful, silent tokens of love for the departed. A Ladies Quartet from the Mission Church furnished music at the home and also at the church, singing Mrs. Almquist's favorite hymns. Her six sons acted as pallbearers, paying their last kind tribute to their dear mother, who so many times in the past had borne both them and their welfare upon her motherly heart. W. O.
