Roger Lockard was the soloist and he was accompanied at the organ by Mrs. Herbert Marshall. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Nolin and Mrs. Bernice Mercer were in charge of flowers. Serving as casket bearers were Phillip Vander Putte, Ira Nolin, Arthur Nolin, Bert McConeghey, Ivan Bell, and Robert Haft. Elza Nolin, son of George W. and Mary Thorne Nolin, was born near Monroe in Jasper county, on May 3, 1872 and passed away Thursday, Sep. 4, 1958 at Skiff Memorial hospital at Newton where he had been confined but a short time. He had attained the age of 86 years, 4 months, and 1 day. In early boyhood he attended the Oak Grove rural school. On March 23, 1898 he was united in marriage to Anna Dora Haft, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Haft, their farm home being established north of Reasnor on the Haft farm. Later the family moved to the Tool's Chapel community where they operated the farm now occupied the youngest son, Lloyd. Upon retirement Jan. 1, 1941, Mr. and Mrs. Nolin, with their daughter Mabel, came to Monroe and the present home site. they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary March 23, 1948. Born to this union were six children, namely, Roy Ellsworth, Mabel J., John H., and Lloyd D., all of Monroe, Carl and Elmer preceding their parents in death in infancy. Those left to mourn his passing are three sons and one daughter, one brother Ben of Los Angles, Cal., 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Anna Dora, on Oct 21, 1953, two infant sons, three sisters, five brothers and one grandson. Mr. Nolin had responsibilities left him in early life. At the age of 14 after the death of his father, he was left in charge of the family farm. He has been a kind and loving husband and father and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
