Description	:	Elmer George Giger, 85, the son of David A. Giger and Zetta Perrill, was born Sept. 20, 1915, on a farm near Guide Rock. He died Feb. 27, at the Good Samaritan Center, in Superior, after a two week stay. His formal education was in Webster County rural schools and Red Cloud High School. His early childhood was in the family's rural home. In 1928 the family moved to their farm north of Red Cloud. As a young man, Elmer served 27 months in the Civilian Conservation Corps, in the Black Hills, Fort Crook and David City areas. In 1937 he married Ruth Ruzicka of David City. He retired from 33 years of employment with the Postal service. Previously he worked as an auto mechanic. A member of the First Baptist Church, he served in many elective offices of the church and Southern Union Association. His talents as carpenter, plumber and electrician saved the church on many occasions. After the river flooding of Camp Merrill at Fullerton, he helped clean the campgrounds. He often used his car to take children to camps and others to association meetings. In December of 1999, he was named deacon emeritus. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas, and brothers, Clarence, Albert, George, Harold and Gordon. Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughters, Mrs. Dick Miller (Jan), Tekamah; Mrs. David Watters (Carol), Sterling, Neb., brother, Ralph Giger, Stewartville, Minn.; and a sister, Florence Turner, Red Cloud. Services were held March 3 from the First Baptist Church in Superior, with the Rev. James Brackett officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery at Superior.
