Description	:	Elmer was the son of John Stephen Turner and Hannah E Bailey. He grew up in Lovington IL and Belvidere NE and married Emily Catherine Strayer in 1898. They had 9 children. Elmer worked as a railroad foreman for the railroad and worked in Belvidere, Camp Clark & Stevens Creek NE; Lowe, Union, & Broughton KS; Iowa; Carpenter WY; and finally Alta Vista KS. He buried his son, Berl, in Broughton, 3 years before his death. When he died, he left behind his wife, Emily, 5 grown children, a son age 12, and twin girls, age 1. His obituary in the... His obituary in the Clay Center Times, 18 Oct 1924 read, "Elmer Turner, formerly section foreman for the Rock Island railroad at Broughton, died very suddenly at Alta Vista Thursday, December 11. He was very well known and liked in the Broughton community where he lived for some time. He was transferred by the railroad company to Alta Vista last spring. The body was shipped to Broughton and burial was made in the cemetery there Sunday by the side of his little son Burl [sic] who died during their residence at Broughton."
