She grew up in Mahaska KS and at age 15 (1898) married Elmer Turner in Washington Cty KS. She had nine children, all of whom survived her except her youngest son, who is buried beside her. As the wife of a railroad section foreman, Emily moved every few years, living in 14 different towns in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Nebraska and Wyoming.
