Description	:	Elmer Lawrence Schwanke was born to his loving parents Christian Friedrich and Marie Albertina (Metschke) Schwanke on Saturday December 3, 1910. The 1910 census shows Elmer's family living in Colfax County Stanton Township Nebraska when he was born. There were actually eleven children in his family, since it is believed his mother's first children were a set of twin girls. The 1910 census shows Elmer's family living in Colfax County Stanton Township Nebraska when he was born. There were actually eleven children in his family, since it is believed his mother's first children were a set of twin girls. The girls died at birth, sadly there are no records of the twin's names nor where they were buried. Elmer had five brothers and five sisters counting the twin sisters that passed. Elmer also had a set of living twin sisters too. Elmer was raised on a rural farm south southwest of Leigh, Platte County Nebraska with a GPS of 41.654460, -97.272033. In February 1946 when his mother fell ill Elmer's folks retired to the City of Leigh, Colfax County. Elmer too moved there with his sister Emma to provide care for both his mother and father. The property is now listed as 311 Beech Street Leigh Nebraska 68643 with a GPS of 41.707245, -97.233709. When Elmer's mother passed away in September of 1946 he continued to care for his father with his sister Emma. Elmer's father passed away in August 1956, he continued to live in that home until 1957 when he purchased his own home which I believe was located at 112 Willow Street on the eastside of Leigh with the GPS of 41.702691, -97.231869. Elmer never married. Elmer would stop and visit my folks in the late fifties and early sixties. Elmer was a carpenter by trade and once stopping to visit my family he said he had just finished some masonry chimney repair in North Bend, Dodge County. Elmer was injured in a Maliha job site scaffolding accident which happened from a scaffolding rope being anchored to a truck. Someone moved the truck without knowing it was supporting the scaffold platform. Elmer wasn't able to perform his carpentry duties after the accident. Elmer was one of my favorite Uncles, he always enjoyed smoking his pipe. I recall Elmer driving a 58 Chevy Biscayne then trading for a beautiful 59 Chevy Impala two tone blue, he then traded for a 63 Chevy Impala. Sadly Elmer passed in his sleep on Sunday March 27, 1983, his neighbors noticed he hadn't shoveled his sidewalks that morning, he was always the first to shovel. His neighbors were able to enter his home through a basement window and they found he had passed. Elmer was 72 years, 3 months, 24 days which does not include his last day, he lived a total of 26,412 days. My research found no information on his funeral service. Elmer was interred in the Saint Paul Lutheran Cemetery south southwest of Leigh in row six. Elmer's information was provided from researching many resources and my memory. This biography was created as an honor to Elmer by his nephew Loren R. I believe all lives matter, even the lives of those who have passed.
