Description	:	Elmer W. McFarland, son of Cyrus M. McFarland and Lucy M. Warner, was born at McLean, Ill., October 5, 1861. He died at his home in Ohiowa, Neb.,at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 1942, aged 80 years, 6 months and 11 days. He died at his home in Ohiowa, Neb.,at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 16, 1942, aged 80 years, 6 months and 11 days. He came to Hubbell, Neb., in September, 1883 and entered the mercantile business with his father and a brother-in-law, Ross Chenoweth. December 24, 1882, he was united in marriage witn Olive Place at Rantoul, Ill. To this union were born five children, J. Warner McFarland of Fort Benton, Mont., Cyrus W. McFarland of Portland, Ore.; the other three children, Mae, Lee Roy and Harry, preceded their father in death. He is also survived by his beloved wife, eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. His only surviving brother is William G. McFarland of Phoenix, Ariz. Mr. and Mrs. McFarland moved to Ohiowa in [1980], where he engaged in the mercantile business for more than fifty years. He served his community by long service on the village and school boards. He was elected and served as Nebraska state senator during the years 1929 and 1930 for District No. 17, including Fillmore, Thayer and Jefferson counties. Mr. McFarland was made a Master Mason at Hubbell in Hubbell Lodge No. 92. He affiliated with Incense Lodge No. 182 in Ohiowa, October 24, 1890. He had received the fifty-year medal prior to his death. He was the possessor of the Jordan Medal, which indicated that he was the oldest Master Mason in Incense lodge. He was also a member of Triune Chapter No. 41 Royal Arch Masons and Naomi Council of Royal and Select Masters of Geneva. He was deeply interested in agronomy and horticulture and was employed for three years at the state agriculture college at Lincoln. He was of Scotch-Irish stock and the conservative characteristics of that strain were marked in his domestic community life, and were apparent in his political and religious career. He was of that accommodating, enterprising type of village business men who co-operated with the farmers and fellow townsmen in building up Nebraska. The funeral rites were at 2:30 Sunday afternoon, April 19, at the Methodist Church, the pastor, Rev. A. W. Ahrendts, officiating. His texts were, "In Him was life and the Life was the light of men," St. John 1:4, and "Cast thy burden upon the Lord and He shall sustain thee," Spa. 55:22. The music was by Mrs. John Klatt and Mrs. B. F. Grant, who sang "Rock of Ages," "No Night There" and "Nearer My God to Thee." Mrs. E. J. Lynn was at the piano. Pallbearers were Don Thornton, Roy Yates, E. R. Lindgren, E. J. Lynn, Ben Barta, E. Silvey, and W. Fitzgerald and Sidney Mumau of Tobias. Interment was in the Ohiowa Cemetery with the Masonic ritual at the grave. A large concourse of people attended the rites.
