Description	:	Elsie M. Smith, 97, of Homer, died Friday, November 25, 2005, at Marshall Manor. Mrs. Smith was born August 27, 1908, in Butler Township, to Herbert A. and Margaret Jane (Curey) Humphrey. She married Howard H. Smith September 11, 1934. He preceded her in death July 11, 2001. Mrs. Smith taught in rural schools in her early years, then became a homemaker. She was a member of Homer First Presbyterian Church and its Mary Martha Circle, Eastern Star, Homer Bridge Club and was a Cub Scout den mother. Mrs. Smith was born August 27, 1908, in Butler Township, to Herbert A. and Margaret Jane (Curey) Humphrey. She married Howard H. Smith September 11, 1934. He preceded her in death July 11, 2001. Mrs. Smith taught in rural schools in her early years, then became a homemaker. She was a member of Homer First Presbyterian Church and its Mary Martha Circle, Eastern Star, Homer Bridge Club and was a Cub Scout den mother. Mrs. Smith enjoyed gardening, flower arranging, reading and drawing. She loved spending winters in Florida, was a Michigan State fan, but most of all she loved her family. Survivors include a daughter, Nancy Frye of Homer; two sons, Arthur (Karen) Smith of Homer, and David (Barbara) Smith of Tekonsha; a sister-in-law, Frances Humphrey of Chelsea; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Rex and Carl Humphrey; and two sisters, Bessie Smith and Olive Thomas. Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 29, at J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home in Albion, with the Rev. Maggie Jorgensen officiating. Interment followed at Fairview Cemetery, Homer, MI. Obit courtesy of Bushong/Weiss
