Elsie May Kappel was born to Jacob and Sarah Brown Kappel in Clay County May 26, 1886. She was one of the pioneer teachers in county schools in this area and then taught at Glasco, Beloit, Republic and many years in the Wichita school system. Elsie May Kappel was born to Jacob and Sarah Brown Kappel in Clay County May 26, 1886. She was one of the pioneer teachers in county schools in this area and then taught at Glasco, Beloit, Republic and many years in the Wichita school system. She received her education at Friends University, Wichita; Wichita University; and Greeley Teachers College, Greeley, Colo. She was united in marriage to George A. Huckeby in June, 1937. He died in 1947. She was a member of the Methodist Church, Eastern Star and legion Auxiliary. Survivors include two brothers, George W. Kappel, Glasco, and William B. Kappel, Mission, besides many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services were held at the Glasco Methodist Church Monday, May 13, with Rev. Gordon Tasker officiating. Interment was in the Glasco Cemetery. Pallbearers were Noel Sawhill, Jean Noel, Leland Chapin, John Harper, Ray Ball, and Lowell Nutland. Organist was Nadine Teasley and Ronald King was soloist. Dean Funeral Home of Glasco was in charge of arrangements.
