Description	:	Funeral service for Elvera Peterson-Lane, 85, of Aberdeen, will be 2:00pm Saturday, July 10, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Aberdeen. Pastor Jeff Whillock will be officiating. Burial will be at the Groton Union Cemetery. Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. Elvera passed away Monday, July 5, 2010 at her home. Elvera Schley was born November 14, 1924 to Armund Theadore and Alvina Amelia (Erdmann) Schley in Aberdeen. She attended East Rondell rural school near Stratford, SD and graduated from Stratford High School in 1942. She also attended Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. She taught rural schools near Stratford, Verdon and Frankfort for several years. Elvera married Ralph Peterson October 5, 1946 at her parents farm house near Stratford. They lived on a farm East of Stratford for five years. In 1951, they moved to the Peterson family farm south of Groton where they lived and farmed for many years. Ralph passed away in September of 1981. Elvera continued to live on the farm until May of 1985 when she moved to Aberdeen. Elvera married James Lane June 10, 1988 at Aberdeen. James passed away in February of 2006 and she has continued to make Aberdeen her home. Elvera was a postal clerk in the Groton Post Office for ten and a half years. She was a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Aberdeen, was a member of the Groton Legion Auxiliary since 1972, was Secretary/Treasure of the Stratford All Class Reunion, was a member of the Brown County Extension Clubs for thirty years, member of Avera St. Luke's Hospital Volunteers Auxiliary and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. She was instrumental in establishing perpetual care at the East Rondell Cemetery at Stratford in 1980 and has been clerk of the cemetery board since that time. Elvera was known as the cake lady in the Groton area where she baked and decorated cakes for over thirty years. She loved gardening and growing flowers, especially gladiolus, she also enjoyed baking, writing letters and reading. Elvera is survived by two daughters, Dorothy (James) Mattingly of Grapevine, TX and Judy Peterson of Columbia Heights, MN, one granddaughter, Carolyn (Randall) Smith and two great grandchildren Nolen and Mady Claire Smith all of Germantown, TN, two sisters, Evelyn (Norman) Brick and Arlene (Wes) Elliott both of Aberdeen, one brother, Wayne Schley of Aberdeen, two sister-in-laws, Geraldine Schley and Lola Mydland both of Aberdeen, one step daughter, Ginny Schwab of Aberdeen, three step sons, Jerry (Marion) Lane of Aberdeen, Richard (Jody) Lane of Omaha, NE and Steve (Lisa) Lane of Moorhead, MN, nine step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren. Elvera was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands and one brother, Marvin Schley.
