Funeral services Elvin Pleasant Thornburg, 91 years old, who died here at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Effie Brooks, Wednesday afternoon, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Economy Friends church. Rev. Irvin Stegall, of Richmond, and Rev. Lee Chamness. of Winchester, both Friends ministers, will officiate and burial will be made in the cemetery at Economy. Mr. Thomburg was a life long resident of Wayne county. He had been ill but one week being stricken with pneumonia Tuesday morning, September 9. A few days later he suffered a stroke of paralysis. Until taken ill, Mr. Thornburg had enjoyed good health despite his advanced years. Monday evening preceding his illness he made his daily trip to the post office and after his evening meal called upon friends. The deceased was born November 8, 1839, at Economy where he resided until the death of his wife six years ago. Since that time he has resided with his daughter here. Besides the daughter he leaves two sons Ottie Thornburg of Muncie and Walter R. Thornburg of Economy; two grandsons, Marx H. Thornburg of Detroit, Mich, and Horace W. Thornburg of Modoc; six great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews. He was a birthright member of the Friends church, and was the son of Walter and Julia N. Thornburg, natives of Tennessee but who migrated to the vicinity of Economy at an early date. He received his early education in the school of Perry township and was considered one of the champion spellers of his day.
