Description	:	Sidney Alson Smith, son of Penn and Ella Smith, was born in Rooks County, Kansas, October 12, 1887, and passed away at Memorial Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, March 29, 1958, at the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 17 days. In 1896 he moved with his parents to the Pleasant Hill neighborhood southeast of Mt. Pleasant. Read More	Sidney Alson Smith, son of Penn and Ella Smith, was born in Rooks County, Kansas, October 12, 1887, and passed away at Memorial Hospital, Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, March 29, 1958, at the age of 70 years, 5 months, and 17 days. In 1896 he moved with his parents to the Pleasant Hill neighborhood southeast of Mt. Pleasant. In 1900 they moved to the Denova community and in 1951 to Salem where he was living at the time of his death. On October 11, 1911, he was united in marriage to Lela A. Kinney. To this union were born two sons, Dale and Harry. Because of the illness and need of his parents for his care, he resigned his job in Burlington, Iowa, and faithfully cared for them until they passed away. He was preceeded in death by his parents, his wife Lela, and a sister Retta Brown. There remain to mourn their loss the two sons, Dale of Salem and Harry of Mt. Pleasant, two grandchildren, Carroll James and Joyce Smith, two daughters-in-law Virginia and Margie, and a sister Lucile Ruggels of Natoma, Kansas, and many other relatives and friends. In his younger years, Sidney attended the Cedar Creek Friends Church. Services were held Monday, March 31, at 2 p.m. at the Friends Church in Salem, with Rev. Lewis May of the Friends Church, assisted by Rev. Jay Waterman of the Congregational Church, officiating. Burial was in Cedar Creek Cemetery. -- Salem Weekly News, April 3, 1958, page 1.
