THROWN TO CURBING BY FORCE OF THE COLLISION. RISING YOUNG OSTEOPATH. Dr. M.E. Pearson, a young osteopath of Louisville, was struck by a Pewee Valley car at Park and Frankfort avenues at 7 o'clock last night, and sustained injuries which resulted in his death at St. Anthony's Infirmary three hours later. When struck he was thrown a distance of several feet and his head was dashed against the stone curbing with such force that he became unconscious. He was taken into the Crescent drug store at Park and Frankfort avenues, but later he was removed to St. Anthony's Hospital. He died at 10 o'clock. Dr. Pearson, in company with Dr. S.T. Bush, who is a woman, with whom he had been associated for the last five years, went to Crescent Hill last night in order to visit a patient. It was on his return home that the accident occurred. Dr. Pearson and Dr. Bush were attempting to cross from the north side of the south side of Frankfort avenue in order to board an inbound car, when the Pewee Valley car bore down on them and struck Mr. Pearson. In crossing the street Dr. Pearson looked up the track for an approaching car, without noticing the approach of the Louisville and Eastern traction car. When the sounding of the gong announced its approach it was too late. The car, it is said, was going at a rapid rate of speed, and before Dr. Pearson could jump in an attempt to avoid being struck the car bore down on him. Skull Badly Shattered. Pedestrians ran to the assistance of the injured man. The wound on the head was bleeding profusely, and by the time the man was carried into the drug store he had lapsed into unconsciousness. Everything possible was done to stanch the flow of blood, while a physician living in the neighborhood was hastily summoned. Seeing at once that Dr. Pearson was fatally injured, he sent of the ambulance and accompanied the injured man to the hospital, where he immediately was placed under the care of several physicians. His skull was fractured in several places and he sustained other injuries about the body, which made it impossible for his life to be saved. Dr. Pearson was thirty-five years of age and was a native of Iowa Falls, Ia. He was reared and educated in that place, and five years ago, after he had completed his education as an osteopath, took up his residence in this city, associating himself with Dr. Bush. For several years they had offices at Fourth avenue and Breckinridge street, where Dr. Pearson also lived. Dr. Pearson was a graduate of the State University of Iowa, and also of the American School of Osteopathy at Kirksville, Mo. Shortly after he came to Louisville he took a course at the Louisville School of Medicine. Dr. Pearson is survived by his mother and two brothers, who were telegraphed the news of his tragic death last night. Dr. Pearson's death was the cause of a great shock to a wide circle of acquaintances, among whom the young man was well liked. Dr. S.S. Waltz, pastor of the First English Lutheran church, of which Dr. Pearson was a member, said of him last night: "Dr. Pearson was a promising young osteopath of this city. He was bound to succeed. Upright, earnest and conscientious, he was much thought of by his acquaintances. He was a zealous member of the First English Lutheran church, and formerly held an office in the church. I was greatly shocked when I heard of the accident that had befallen him." Dayton Review January 24, 1907 As we go to press we learn that Dr. Monnie E. Pearson of Louisville, Ky., met with a serious accident Tuesday evening, causing his death. The news came as a shock to his many friends in Dayton, who extend their heartfelt sympathy to the family in their great sorrow. The corpse will be brought here for burial, but we have not learned when it will occur. Dayton Review January 31, 1907 A DOUBLE FUNERAL One of the largest funerals ever held in Dayton was conducted at the Lutheran church last Sunday afternoon, Lloyd Poulson and Dr. M.E. Pearson, two loved and respected young men, cousins, taken away in the early manhood of life, honored and revered by all who knew them, being borne to their last resting place in Dayton cemetery. Rev. Holmer preached the funeral services, assisted by Rev. Muhleman of Grace M.E. Church and Rev. Malmstrom of the Swedish M.E. church, Rev. Muhleman speaking in the English language. The death of Mr. Poulson was not unexpected, he having been sick for some time; that of Dr. Pearson came in the midst of health, the sad news coming to loved ones without warning. The members of the order of the Knights of Pythias, of which both young men were members, and the Masonic fraternity, of which Dr. Pearson was also a member, accompanied them to their final resting place, where they were interred under the beautiful ritualistic ceremonies of the respective orders. The earnest sympathy of the community is extended to the bereaved families in their hour of sorrow. Emanuel Emil Pearson [Peterson] was born at Dayton, Iowa, May 28, 1873, and passed from this life at Louisville, Kentucky, January 22, 1907, at the age of 33 years, 7 months, 25 days. He was confirmed into the Lutheran Church at this place in 1886, and has been ever since an earnest Christian young man, being at the time of his death a member of the First English Lutheran church of Louisville, of which he was a deacon. His boyhood days were spent in Dayton, where the was a member of the first graduating class of our public schools, and was loved by all who knew him for his manliness of character and his kindliness of heart. At various times he attended college at the Iowa State College at Ames, Highland Park College at Des Moines, and the State Normal School at Lincoln, Nebraska, where he enlisted at the outbreak of the Spanish-American War, in Co. I, First Nebraska Regiment, serving in the Philippines, and being raised to the rank of Corporal. After his discharge in 1899, he entered the American School of Osteopathy at Kirkesville, graduating in 1902, and locating at Louisville, for the practice of his profession in company with Mrs. F.R. Bush, a member of his class. He had also nearly completed a course of medicine in the Louisville School of Medicine. His mother, Mrs Louis Erickson, two brothers and two sisters survive to mourn his sudden death. His life was devoted to the betterment of his fellowmen, and his untimely death is mourned by all.
