Read More	Garden County News (Oshkosh, Nebraska), Dec. 3, 1953, Page 1 Emil Rieck, one of the most prominent rural residents of Lewellen area, succumbed Friday at Lewellen. He had been in poor health for a year and a half during which time he had been in many hospitals receiving care. Prior to coming to Lewellen he had served as mayor of Dunning. He remained active in civic affairs at Lewellen, serving on the school board of Lewellen Rural high school. He had been on the school board at Dunning also. Mr. Rieck was one of the instigators and most devoted workers for the project of getting a new Lewellen hospital. For several years he served as a board member of the hospital. He was a successful farmer and rancher, doing both irrigation farming and ranching. His activities were curtailed only when he no longer was well enough to get around and do the many things he liked to do on the farm. His last illness lasted over 18 months. During that period he was most cooperative and patient even though in great pain. Much of the time he was in hospitals in Lewellen, Omaha, Denver and finally Mayos in Rochester. He was born Emil William Rieck at Hamburg, Iowa, on May 30, 1886 and died in Lewellen November 27 at the age of 67 years, five months and 20 days. In early life he was confirmed in the Lutheran church of Hamburg and retained his membership there throughout his life, although being active in attending and supporting Grace Lutheran church in Lewellen. When a voting man he came with his father's family to a farm near Primrose. On January 20, 1909 he was united in marriage to Miss Jeannette Roberts in Cozad and they settled in Primrose where they made their home for several years. In 1912 he brought his wife to Lewellen and since that time most of their lives have been spent on the farm just west of that town. He loved the farm work and was most suucessful at it. Mr. Rieck is survived by his wife, Jeannette; sons, Donald of Tahoe City, and Chester of Lewellen; three daughters, Mrs. Paul Brown of Altadena, California, Mrs. Reid Brassfield of Lewellen and Mrs. James Huwaldt of Oshkosh. A twin son and daughter preceded him in death. Other survivors include: five sisters, Mrs. Otto Dettman and Mrs. Arnold Francis, both of Lewellen, Mrs. Cora Hughes of Ogallala, Mrs. Frank Robertson of Denver and Mrs. Irving Winterer of Lisco. A sister and two brothers preceded him in death. There are 13 grandchildren surviving. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Harry Hess, pastor of the Lewellen Methodist church Sunday after noon in the Wright Funeral home. Burial was in the Ash Hollow cemetery at Lewellen.
