Neal, of this city, Monday evening, December 14, 1931, of hear trouble and complications, at the age of 82 years 1 month and 14 days. Emily Jane Miner was born in Jefferson county, Ohio, October 31, 1849, where she grew to young womanhood. She was there united in marriage with William A. Neal on August 27, 1868 in Allamakee County Iowa by Rev. A. G. Woods. In July 1888 Mr. and Mrs. Neal and family came to Akron and engaged in farming near here for a number of years; later moving to town and making a home here ever since. Twelve children came to bless their union. Mrs. Neal was preceded in death by her husband March 27, 1920, and one daughter and three sons, Mrs. Grace Pike, Roy, Charles and Emmet Neal. Those left to mourn her departure are: Emery Frank and Victor Neal and Mrs. W. M. Parker, of Akron; B. A. Neal of Bradley, SD; Mrs. H. C. Squires of Centerville, SD; Mrs. Frank Lewis of Cherokee, IA, and Lewis Neal of Kerkover, MN, also by one sister, Mrs. John Tyson, of Stuart, IA, and fifty grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. A kind and devoted wife and mother, a helpful and sympathizing friend and neighbor, she will be missed and mourned in this community where she spent so many years of her life. For many years, she had been a member of the Methodist church. Funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock in the Akron M. E. church, conducted by Rev. R. E. Brown. Interment was in Riverside cemetery. The National Woman's Relief Corps, Auxiliary to the Grand Army of the Republic, Inc., (NWRC) is a national women's patriotic organization in the United States. The NWRC expresses that among other tenets, a primary purpose is to perpetuate the memory of the Grand Army of the Republic, (GAR) (a Civil War Union veterans' advocacy organization). The NWRC is the GAR'S only legally recognized auxiliary and was organized at the specific request of the GAR. A formal Charter was drawn on July 25 and 26, 1883 in Denver, Colorado. It was subsequently incorporated by Public Act of the 87th Congress on September 7, 1962. (added by Melissa Neal Habeck)
