She was born on June 27, 1924, to Hans and Martha Polson of Waterville, WA. Emily attended the Enterprise School, north of Waterville, for two years and graduated from Waterville High School in June of 1943. She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree, becoming a Registered Nurse, graduating from Whitworth College, and the Deaconess School of Nursing, both located in Spokane, WA, in June of 1948. Emily married her high school sweetheart, John Simmons, on May 10, 1947, at the Federated Church in Waterville. Emily and John were married 64 years, before John passed away on March 2, 2011. They had three children: a son, Newton Simmons, and two daughters: Nan Klix (Chris), and Martha Cattin (Mark). They were blessed with four grandchildren: Julie Cattin (Ed Robinson), Jonathan Simmons, John Cattin, and Anea Pavlosky (Andy); and two great-grandchildren: Swayze Cattin, and Oliver Robinson. Emily's working career spanned 41 years including: nursing at the Deaconess Hospital in Spokane, WA, Douglas County Memorial Hospital in Waterville, and Deaconess Hospital in Wenatchee, WA, which eventually became Central Washington Hospital, until her retirement. During her last years at Central Washington Hospital, Emily supervised Central Supply. She retired on her birthday, June 27, 1986. After moving to Wenatchee from Waterville in 1964, Emily became a member of the First Presbyterian Church. Emily was very active in the church, which included becoming a Deacon and Elder, served as a Moderator, Vice Moderator, and Treasurer for the Presbyterian Women. She also served on the Worship Committee and Steering Committee for the building of the new church for seven years. She participated for 35 years in the church choir, taught Sunday school, and helped with church receptions. She spent many hours organizing church bazaars, and attended three national conventions for the Presbyterian Women. In July of 1984, Emily and John were part of the church choir, touring and presenting four concerts in the British Isles. She spoke often of the "gang" and their wonderful experience together. Emily is survived by one brother, Kenneth Polson of Wenatchee, WA. Preceding her in death were her parents; one sister, Mabel Badger; and two brothers: Elton Polson, and Dr. Randall Polson. A Memorial Service will be held on April 28, 2018, at 2:00 p.m., at the Saddlerock Evangelical Presbyterian Church, 1400 S. Miller St., Wenatchee, WA. A private Graveside Service will be held at the Waterville Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Federated Church, 224 W. Ash St., Waterville, WA, 98858, Presbyterian Church, 1400 S.
