Description	:	BIESTER, EMMA CHRISTINE—Emma Christine Biester was born June 17, 1888, to William Gerken and his wife, Mary (nee) Hartman, at Grafton. She was baptized as an infant and was instructed in God’s Word and confirmed in the St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Shickley on February 22, 1901, by Pastor George Kirschke. Read More	BIESTER, EMMA CHRISTINE—Emma Christine Biester was born June 17, 1888, to William Gerken and his wife, Mary (nee) Hartman, at Grafton. She was baptized as an infant and was instructed in God’s Word and confirmed in the St. Paul’s Lutheran church of Shickley on February 22, 1901, by Pastor George Kirschke. On April 14, 1915, she was united in marriage to Christian Biester, in the St. Paul’s Lutheran church, Grafton, by Pastor Brenner. To this union was born three children: Alvin, Donald and Bernice. Emma and Chris lived their entire life on a farm four miles west of Geneva until 1954 when they moved into Geneva. They lived in their home on the corner of 11th and J until failing health forced them to enter the Heritage Home in Geneva in 1978. Shortly before this, on April 14, 1978, they celebrated their 63rd and final wedding anniversary together. On January 26 she suffered a stroke and was admitted to the Fillmore County hospital in Geneva. It was from here that she died Sunday morning, February 15, after reaching the age of 92 years. She is survived by her three children, Alvin of Geneva, Donald of Clay Center and Bernice (Mrs. Robert Kubovec) of Davenport, Ia.; one brother, Emil Gerken of Geneva; two daughters-in-law, Mrs. Alvin (Clara) Biester and Mrs. Donald (Hazel) Biester, and one son-in-law, Robert Kubovec; 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Christian Biester; one sister, Amanda Bohlen; and by three brothers, Theodore, Ernest and Walter Gerken. Farmer and Son mortuary was in charge of the arrangements. The funeral was conducted from the Grace Lutheran church in Geneva, on Wednesday, February 18, at 2 p.m., with the Rev. James Lillo officiating. Serving as organist was Michelle Biester, great-granddaughter of the deceased. Two hymns, “Nearer My God to Thee” and “Rock of Ages” were sung by the congregation. Serving as pallbearers were Gary and Larry Biester, James Kubovec, Stuart Gratopp, Richard Wagner and Waldo Schinzel. The interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 26 February 1981
