Description	:	William Frederick Gerken was born in German, April 21, 1856. He passed away on his eighty-fourth birthday at his home in Geneva, Neb., April 21, 1940. he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, to which he remained faithful until the end. While still in Germany, he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Hartman, November 5, 1882. In 1932 Mr. and Mrs. Gerken celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. He passed away on his eighty-fourth birthday at his home in Geneva, Neb., April 21, 1940. he was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church, to which he remained faithful until the end. While still in Germany, he was united in marriage with Miss Maria Hartman, November 5, 1882. In 1932 Mr. and Mrs. Gerken celebrated their golden wedding anniversary. They came to Nebraska in April, 1886, and pioneered along the Blue River between Grafton and Fairmont. They moved to their farm in Geneva Township in the spring of 1900. In 1924 they moved to Geneva where they have made their home since that time. To this union six children were born. One son, Walter, preceded his father in death. Mr. Gerken is survived by his wife; two daughters, mrs. Jacob Bohlen of Grafton and Mrs. C. H. Biester of Geneva; three sons, Theodore and Emil of Geneva and Ernest of York; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Ernest Lentfer of Stromsburg and Henry Lentfer of Fairmont; two half-sisters, Mrs. Sophia Laschansky and Mrs. Christina Laschansky, both of Fairmont; and many other relatives and friends. The funeral was held April 24 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church near Grafton, Rev. G. Mueller officiating. Interment was in the Grafton Cemetery. The Nebraska Signal April 1940 Lot owner: William Gerken.
