EMMA STERLING DIED EARLY THURSDAY Aged Resident Passed Away At Home Of Son In Asbury Funeral Services To Be Held Sunday Afternoon Mrs. Emma McCready Sterling, widow of the late George B.N. Sterling, died at the home of her son, Mr. Benjamin F. Sterling, in Asbury, at 2:00 a.m. Thursday morning, of the infirmaries of age. Mrs. Sterling was 85 years of age last December, and was the daughter of the late John N. Sterling and Harriet B. Lawson Sterling. [sic -- Those were her husband's parents. Emma was the daughter of Benjamin Franklin McCready and Mary Jane Lawson McCready] She had been in poor health for some time, but was cheerful during her illness and interested in the affairs of the community in which she resided. Mrs. Sterling was a woman who found her greatest pleasure in ministering to her family, and was never happier than when her sons, and other loved ones, were around her. She had lived, up to a short time ago, on the old state road a short distance outside Crisfield, for many years, when her husband conducted farming operations before he died in August, 1939, and remained there some time after his death. Related to several of the county's prominent families, she reared her own family in an atmosphere best calculated to make fine and responsible citizens of them. A fine neighbor, a warm friend, in her many years of life she had ministered to many and been helpful in times when help counted most. News of her death was received with sincere sorrow by the community. She was a lifelong member of Mariners Methodist Church and active in its affairs in past years. Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock in Mariners Methodist Church, with the pastor, Dr. Robert H. Wilson, conducting the services. Interment will be beside the body of her husband in the Sunnyridge Park cemetery. She is survived by four sons, Benjamin F. Sterling, of Asbury, George B. Sterling, Jr., of Louisville, Ky., Grover Sterling, of Detroit, Mich., and Victor Sterling, of New Mexico. Three half-sisters, Mrs. Mary E. Charnick, Mrs. Lora Johnson, and Mrs. Celia Howard, of Crisfield, and two half-brothers, William S. Horsey and John W. Horsey, of Crisfield, seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
