Description	:	EMMA DVORAK SHINN Mrs. Emma Shinn, 89, a resident of Colonial Acres Nursing Home in Humboldt, passed away Thursday, July 12, 1973 at the Humboldt Community Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the United Methodist Church at DuBois, with the Rev. Ward Merritt officiating. Mrs. Herbert Marteney was the organist and the vocalist were Mrs. Dean Yoble and Mrs. Jack Nemec. Mrs. Shinn, nee Emma Dvorak, was born April 14, 1884 in Pawnee County, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Dvorak. She attended the Pawnee County rural schools. February 10, 1926 she was united in marriage to Edward A. Shinn at Pawnee City. They made their home on a farm one mile northwest of DuBois, until 1930 when they retired from the farm and moved to a small acreage near DuBois. In 1953 they moved into DuBois. Mrs. Shinn had made her home in different nursing homes in Pawnee County, and recently moved to the Colonial Acres Nursing Home. ************************************************************************************** EMMA "AMALKA" DVORAK SHINN Emma "Amalka" Dvorak was born April 14, 1882 in Pawnee County, Nebraska, died July 12, 1973. As the result of a childhood accident when jumping from one chair to another, she fell and injured herself which left her with a permanent disability. She walked bent over with her hand on her knee. Her temperament was very difficult. She remained at home, keeping house for her aged father and her brother until she married Edward Shinn after the tragic death of her older sister Anna. Emma was almost 44 when, with strong support from her father, she married her sister's widower on February 26, 1926. Her sister's children were ages 17 (Emil) and (Adella) 11 at the time of this marriage. She is remembered as excitable and exacting.
