SAMUEL SMITH Emma Elza Beals, daughter of Ephrima and Jenny Beals, was born at Grant, Ia., on Oct. 25, 1875, and passed away at Ord, Nebr., on Dec. 9, 1951, at the age of 76 years. 1 month and 14 days. On Febr. 28, 1894, she was united in marriage to Samuel Marion Smith. To the union four children were born. In 1919 the Smiths moved to Scotia and in 1945 they moved to Ord where they have their home ever since. Mrs. Smith joined the Methodist church when a small girl at Grant, Ia., and has always been a member of the Methodist church except for a few years while living at Laramie, Wyo. Through the years she has been an active worker in the Sunday school and church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for about 25 years. She was a chaplain in this organization for a number of years. Mrs. Smith is survived by her husband, Samuel of Ord, Nebr.; four children, Mrs. Hattie Jansen of Junction City, Ore., Mrs. Hazel Burton of Scotia, Nebr., Ora of Le Center, Minn., and Mrs. Catherine Weekes of Ord, Nebr.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great- grandchild; 2 sisters, Mrs. Lula Kenworthy of Grant, Ia., and Mrs. Mary Zuber of Eldorado Springs, Mo. Her mother, father, and brother preceded her in death. Funeral services were held from the Scotia Methodist church, Tuesday at 2 pm with interment in the Mt. Hope cemetery at Scotia.
