Description	:	Miss Emma K. Wood a resident of Chelan for the past 22 years passed away at her home here Saturday evening, March 2, at 7 pm, after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 5th, in the Methodist Episcopal church, of Chelan, by the Rev. J. I. Rentfro, pastor of the church. Wood a resident of Chelan for the past 22 years passed away at her home here Saturday evening, March 2, at 7 pm, after a prolonged illness. Funeral services were conducted at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon, March 5th, in the Methodist Episcopal church, of Chelan, by the Rev. J. I. Rentfro, pastor of the church. A double quartet, composed by the following singers; Mrs. J. A. Van Slyke, Mrs. Herbert Ogden, Mrs. T. J. East, Mrs. Opal Farley, C. R. Sargent, Elmer Boyd, Herbert Ogden and Asa Post, sang tow hymns: "Jesus, Lover of My Should" and "Shall We Gather at the River". Mrs. Carl Christopher sang, "One Sweetly Solemn Thought." Mrs. L. S. Morse played the piano accompaniments. The pall bearers were: H. W. Van Slyke, J. H. Mundt, J. W. Chatfield, W. Kenneth Kingman, W. M. Emerson and L. S. Morse. Many were in attendance at the funeral, both at the services at the church and at the grave. The order of the Easter Star, of which Miss Wood was a member, was present in body at the church services. The floral tributes were luxuriant and abundant. Reverend Rentfro, in fitting terms, figures of speech and quotations, commented upon the sterling character and purposeful life of Miss Emma K. Wood. To have known Miss Wood, was to love her. We quote in part from the life sketch, as read by Reverend Rentfro at the service: "Miss Emma K. Wood was born in Boone, Iowa, where she lived the greater part of her life. From infancy she was blessed with Christian parents and Christian influences. From early childhood she was keenly interested in the work of the church; she became a member of the Methodist Episcopal church when she was a small child and throughout her life, she loved the church and she faithfully attended its services." "Additional to the many activities of her daily life, Miss Wood was intensely interested in the great work of Christian missions, and particularly, interested in the cause of world missions. Throughout the last 20 years of her life, she was a life member of the Woman's foreign missionary society of the M. E. church." "During the last dozen years of her life, she supported, out of her savings, three native women of India who gave their full time to the distribution of the Bible throughout that heathen land. These three women died in the Christian service made possible by our unselfish sister. Though these three native women died, Miss Wood secured a fourth Bible woman, who this day is carrying on the work in India." "In addition to her interest in mission in foreign lands, Miss Wood was deeply concerned with the extension of the kingdom of God in the homeland and in Chelan and the adjoining communities. She was an active member of the Ladies' Aid society; she was the first superintendent of the cradle roll department in the Sunday School, and she was also the superintendent of the primary department of our local Sunday School for many years. She was a loyal supporter of temperance, and for more than 30 years she was an active member of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union." With the other members of her father's family, Miss Wood, in 1907, left her old home in Iowa, and came to Chelan where she resided until the time of her death. The following members of the family preceded Miss Wood in death, a father, a mother, and two sisters. Of the bereaved family, four remain, two sisters, Miss Mary Wood, Miss Sarah Wood, both of Chelan and two brothers, Sampel and Albert Wood of Tacoma. The brothers from Tacoma were here and visited with their sister before her passing, and were here to attend the funeral. Funeral arrangements were handled by Higgins Undertaking Parlors. The stores of Chelan were closed during the funeral of Miss Emma Wood.
