Description	:	In the sudden death last Thursday afternoon of Mrs. Zylpha Wood, the community suffered the loss of its last and noblest women. Mrs. Wood died at the home of her son, Samuel R. Wood, in Tacoma at about 7:45 in the evening, and her death, which resulted from heart disease, was very sudden and unexpected. Read More	In the sudden death last Thursday afternoon of Mrs. Zylpha Wood, the community suffered the loss of its last and noblest women. Mrs. Wood died at the home of her son, Samuel R. Wood, in Tacoma at about 7:45 in the evening, and her death, which resulted from heart disease, was very sudden and unexpected. She had been visiting her sons and some old friends and had expected to start home Thursday, but as she was not feeling entirely well her son induced her to stay over another day. She was struck just as she reached her bedchamber to retire for the night and before a physician could be called she had passed away. A funeral service was held at Tacoma, which was attended by a large number of former Iowa friends. Rev. Thomas Lane, the prominent Methodist minister of Tacoma who is well known to Chelan people conducted the service. The remains were then brought to Chelan and the final funeral service was held at the home at 10 am Tuesday, conducted by Rev. C. W. Monson, the pastor of the deceased's church. Many friends attended to pay the last tribute of respect to the earthly remains of the departed and profuse and beautiful floral offerings were heaped upon the bier. Mrs. Wood was born at Terra Haute, Ind., on July 8, 1838. She was married at Boon, Iowa, to Silver C. Wood and resided there until she came to Chelan about 10 years ago. Seven children were born to them of whom five survive, all of whom attended the burial in Chelan. Those living are Albert E. Wood and Samuel L Wood of Tacoma, and Misses Emma K. Wood, Sara Wood and Mary Wood of Chelan. Twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, a sister, Mrs. Nancy Ruiel of Alberta, Canada, and three brothers, Milden Luther of Madrid, Iowa, Warren Luther of Alberta and Newton Luther of Sweet Home, Oregon, are the near relatives who mourn the irreparable break in the family circle. Her husband died in 1885. Mrs. Wood was converted at the age of sixteen and joined the Methodist Church, and for sixty years she had been a constant attendant at the services of her church, and her life was an unvarying testimony of her sincerity in the faith she professed. Always kind and thoughtful and considerate to others, always ready to extend a helping hand or sneak a word of sympathy to the needy and afflicted, her life was a daily exemplification of the true Christian character. Because the unusually long life, which the All wise Father had granted her to live was so well lived and was so full of good and kindly deeds, her death is a loss which is keenly felt not only by her immediate family but by her church and by then entire community.
