Description	:	SLOAN, EMMA MARGARET—Mrs. Charles H. Sloan departed this life in Geneva, Neb., at 3:30 a. m. Saturday, October 19, 1946, aged 86 years, 9 months, and 25 days. She survived her husband only a little more than four months. Emma Margaret Porter, the eldest of the eleven children of the late Franklin J. and Lucy (Francis) Porter, was born on a farm near Woodbine, Ia., December 25, 1859. Mrs. Sloan, while attending a P. Emma Margaret Porter, the eldest of the eleven children of the late Franklin J. and Lucy (Francis) Porter, was born on a farm near Woodbine, Ia., December 25, 1859. Mrs. Sloan, while attending a P. E. O. sisterhood meeting Friday evening in Geneva, suffered an acute heart attack from which she quietly passed away a few hours later. After graduating from the Woodbine, Ia., local school at the age of sixteen, the deceased taught three years in rural schools near there; then entered the state agricultural college at Ames, Ia., where she graduated in 1885. After graduating from Ames, she taught in the State Center, Ia., public school four years. October 1, 1889, Miss Porter was united in marriage with Charles H. Sloan, a college classmate, who was practicing law at Fairmont, Neb. After Mr. Sloan was elected county attorney she and he moved to Geneva in 1891. Here she continued to reside until her death, except for the years when Mr. Sloan was serving in Congress, when they lived in Washington, D. C. Mrs. Sloan was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church of Geneva; Order of the Eastern Star; Chapter O, P. E. O.; Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War and American Legion Auxiliary. Members of Chapter O, P. E. O., Order of the Eastern Star and Daughters of the Union Veterans attended the services in a body. She liked to read and was well informed on the classics and current topics. Quiet of disposition and kindly by nature; she always saw the good qualities in people. Never inclined to assert herself, she could always be counted on to do her part well. She was a kind, loving mother and during the lingering illness of her husband, the late Charles H. Sloan, she faithfully remained at his bedside and did all she could to add to his cheer and comfort. She not only was a student of the Bible, but undertook in her modest way to live a Christian life. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Franlin J. Porter, and husband Charles H. Sloan, and son, Frank Blaine Sloan, predeceased her. Her brothers, Joseph F. Porter, William E. Porter and Edgar Porter, and sisters, Frances E. Evan, Georgia R. Homes, Ada L. Porter and Ethel Porter, also preceded her in death. She leaves surviving her, her children, Mrs. Ethel (Grady) Corbitt, Charles Porter Sloan and William McKinley Sloan; and grandchildren, Frank Blaine Sloan, Kathryn Long, William Marshall Sloan, Sally Sloan, Charles W. Corbitt and Margaret Anne Higley; and great-grandchildren, Charles W. Corbitt Jr. and James Carter Corbitt; a brother Harry R. Porter of Vancouver, Wash., and sisters Kate M. Gess of Fort Lewis, Wash., and Inez H. Hewitt of Mondamin, Ia., and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the Geneva Methodist church at 2 p. m. Monday, October 21, Rev. Ben F.
