She was born in Quebec, Canada on October 31, 1846 and was married to John Whan at Champaign, Illinois on November 7, 1870. EMMA WHAN Mrs. Emma When, for forty-seven years a resident of Villisca, died Thursday evening of last week at 9 o’clock at her home on East 3rd Street, her death resulting from anemia. She was born in Quebec, Canada on October 31, 1846 and was married to John Whan at Champaign, Illinois on November 7, 1870. To them were born nine children, seven of whom Those who are living are, George of Creston; Roy, Linn, Will, Mrs. Frank Moritz, Mrs. Guy Moritz of Kansas, and Mrs. Ed Noble of Villisca. Mrs. Whan came to Villisca in 1879. She was a member of the Methodist Church and of the G. A. R. aide. The funeral was held Saturday afternoon in the Methodist Church at 2 o’clock with Dr. A. E. Moore of Clarinda in charge of the service in absence of Rev. J. L. Boyde, who is confined to his home by sickness. Pall bearers were A. A. Doggett, C. Henry, J. M. Sheridan, A. Alcott, John Holdren, and Geo. Lacock, and interment was in the Villisca Cemetery. Those from a distance to attended the services were Mrs. G. G. Moritz of Oakley, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. I. Whan, Geo. Whan, and Florence of Creston.
