FOSTER Emma Retta Grimes, eldest daughter of W. C. and Eleanor Grimes, was born in Pocahontas county, W. Va., May 27, 1860, and departed this life Sept. 8, 1937, at her home in Williamson, Iowa, at the age of 77 years, 3 months and 14 days. In 1871 she came with her parents to Iowa by way of the wagon route, the journey taking several weeks. They located in Lucas county, Iowa, and that place has since been her home. Early in life she was converted and united with the Methodist church and remainded a member of the same until 1920 when she and her husband moved to Williamson, where she became a faithful member of the Community church and remained so until the end. On April 15, 1880, she was united in marriage to Emery Shore. As this union was never blest by children they adopted a son, who lived with them until Mr. Shore passed away Feb 10, 1905. In January 1907, she was married to John Y. Foster, who preceded her in death, passing away June 10, 1935. She leaves to mourn their loss, three step-children, Wm. Foster of St. Edward, Nebr.; Mrs. Clara Anderson, of Galesburg, Ill.; and Chas. Foster of Des Moines; two brothers, Scott Grimes, Harper, Kansas, and Otis Grimes, Columbia; three sisters, Mrs. Esta Shore, Purdy; Mrs. J. L. Agan, Williamson; and Mrs. C. W. Hancock, Dallas; and a number of nieces and nephews and a host of friends. All through her illness she was tenderly cared for, and all that loving hands could do was done to relieve her suffering, but it is most comforting to know that "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints." Funeral services, conducted by Rev. A. E. Beals, of Russell, assisted by Rev. Irving Mitchell, of Williamson, were held Friday afternoon at the Community church in Williamson, and burial was in the Zion cemetery. Six nephews acted as pall bearers.
