Read More	Prominent Citizen Dies – Enoch Norbeck Dies in Rochester Hospital A long and eventful career in the political and community activities of South Dakota was ended Tuesday with the death of Enoch Norbeck in a Rochester, Minnesota hospital, where Mr. Norbeck underwent an operation last week. He suffered a relapse Saturday and failed to recover. He had been in ill health for the past year or more. The son of Rev. and Mrs. Geo. Norbeck, Enoch was born in Clay Co. Feb 26, 18880. The family moved to Charles Mix county in the early 80's, and here Enoch grew to manhood and took an active part in the development of the community. As a member of the progressive branch of the Republican party, he served two terms in the state legislature, 1909-1013, and under Governor Leslie Jensen served on the state park commission. Mr. Norbeck was elected county commissioner in 1934 and at the end of his term announced his candidacy for the Republican nomination for governor… However, before the election, in the interests of party harmony, he withdrew from the campaign, and called on his opponent, Harlan Bushfield, to take the same action. For the last several years Mr. Norbeck has been county property agent and has been instrumental in liquidating the tax property and foreclosed real estate of the county. He also served as Republican county chairman for several years. As a member of the Norbeck Bros. Co, he drilled thousands of wells throughout North and South Dakota and ext month would have marked his fiftieth year as a well driller. He also farmed for several years. On July 6, 1901, he was united in marriage to Gertie Severson, who survives him with their seven children, Glenn and Neil, who have just returned from overseas duty with the army, Myrtle and Edith of Washington, D.C., Mrs. Gladys Sabin of New York, Mrs. Alice White of St. Louis, Mo., and Lorene, of Panama. Two sisters, Mrs. Martin Anderson and Mrs. Matt (Laura) Haugen, both living on the West coast, also survive. Funeral services for Mr. Norbeck will be held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Tabor Lutheran church in Platte. (24 Jan 1946) END Enoch Norbeck Buried at Bloomington Funeral services for the late Enoch Norbeck were held at the Tabor Lutheran church Saturday. Friends of Mr. Norbeck filled the church to capacity long before the time of the services, and numerous people were forced to stand outside the church. Rev. O.D. Thompson officiated at the services.
