Lewnes Obitary of Ephraim Lewis The subject of this sketch was born near Wheeling, West Virginia, September 11, 1880. When 18 years of age he came to Illinois. He was married to Sarah J. Martin on November 10, 1852, on the bride's twenty-second birthday. They continued to reside in Illinois till 1868, when they moved to Eastern Iowa, settling near Mount Pleasant. Western Iowa lured them in the autumn of 1875 and they took up residence near Creston, but in 1891 they came to Fairfield and remained. His wife preceded him some eighteen years. Five children were given to this couple- four sons, Wilber A., Charles L., of Fairfield, George S., who died in Denver in 1899, Ephraim H. of Fairfield, and one daughter, Mrs. Vodra of Omaha. In the early days of his married life he became a Christian and remained unusually steadfast unto the end. He was a member of the Methodist church for many years. Besides the above mentioned children he is survived by two sisters, Miss Hermelia Lewis and Mrs. Lizzie Evers of Jacksonville, Illinois. The last illness covered a period of only about a week. He had made full preparation for his funeral, selecting the minister, the scripture, the hymns, and the place of holding the services were held at the residence of his son, E.H. Lewis, Tuesday morning, Rev. Orill presiding,. The remains were laid to rest in the Fairfield cemetery. McEvers, widow of Henry McEvers Additional information ▪ Son of Samuel Lewis who died in Jacksonville, Morgan, Co. Illinois-1883 ▪ The Reverend R.N.Orill was a Methodist Episcopal clergyman.
