Lewnes Wilbur A. Lewis was born September 28, 1885, on a farm near Winchester, Illinois, and passed away November 27, 1930, at the home of his daughter in Lincoln, Nebraska. He moved with the family to a farm near Mount Pleasant, Iowa; in 1869. In 1875 they moved to Nevinville, Iowa. He was married in 1880 to Livona Crawford, who preceded him in death by 15 years, dying on the 26th of December, 1915. To this union were born 8 children, 2 dying in infancy, Milton was killed in battle August 6, 1918. Howard passed away May 11, 1922. Two daughters and two sons survive him, Mrs. J.W. McReynolds, Lincoln, Mrs C.J. Wilson, Fairfield,. G.L. Lewis, Fairfield, and W.A. Lewis, Jr. of Chicago, Ill. There are also two brothers, C.L. Lewis, E.H. Lewis, of Fairfield, one sister, Mrs. Harry Mole, of Omaha and 18 grandchildren. In the spring of 1883 they moved to Nuckolls county, Nebraska. From there they moved to Clay county in 1890. He retired from the farm in 1909, moving to Fairfield, where he has since resided. He was a member of the United Brethern Church near Nelson during the years he lived there. Later he and his wife transferred their membership to the Congregational Church at Fairfield. During his many years of residence in and around Fairfield he made a host of friends who join with the family to mourn his loss. Funeral services were held at the Congregational Church in Fairfield, conducted by Rev. A. W. Alcorn of Harvard and Rev. Thos. D. Davis of Fairfield; Saturday, November 29, 1930. Burial was made in Fairfield Cemetery. Additional information ▪ He was the son of Ephraim and Sarah Jane Martin Lewis, both born in West Virginia.
