Read More	Dayton Review July 28, 1898 OBITUARY Erick Wesley Peterson was born in Dayton, Aug. 29, 1867, and died at the home of his parents here Saturday morning July 16, 1898, at 7 o'clock. His early life was spent on the family homestead west of Burnside, where his father located soon after coming to Dayton. In the summer of 1884, Wesley entered the employ of Anderson, Oleson & Co., as a clerk, and remained with them five years, resigning for a needed rest. After making his home at Burnside two or three years, he was given a position with the Plymouth clothing house in Fort Dodge. His fidelity and honesty won the confidence of his employers, and he was taken in as a member of the firm, remaining with them until his death. The writer has been acquainted with the deceased from early boyhood, and knew him as a young man of sterling worth and the highest integrity. No young man ever left a greater number of friends in the communities in which he lived, and their presence at the last sad rites, came from a heartfelt devotion to the memory they loved to cherish for his many acts of kindness. As a young business man, Wesley was industrious and earnest, yet accommodating and painstaking, adhering strictly to honest business principles, and just with all who dealt with him. Socially he was a man in all that the term implies, loved and respected by all who came in contact with him. There are few persons in the communities in which he lived that do not have some little act of kindness to commemorate his genial and warm-hearted disposition. He was a member of the Lutheran church in Fort Dodge, and was a thorough and conscientious christian who lived as he died a faithful follower of his Savior. At the time of his death he was a member of the board of trustees and treasurer of the church to which he belonged. In religious as well as in social life, he was earnest and active in performing the duties that came upon him. He will be missed in every circle of life in which he lived and moved, and truly the Father can say to him, "Well done, thou good and faithful servant." His funeral was held at the Swedish Lutheran church here, where he had always held his membership before removing to Fort Dodge. The exercises were conducted in both the Swedish and English language, Rev. Christenson preaching in the Swedish and Rev. Swanberg in English. The services were attended by a host of friends, who had been intimately associated with him in different localities where he had lived. A special train, bearing about seventy-five friends and business associates came down from Fort Dodge to pay their last regards to his memory. Wesley leaves behind a father, mother, and one brother to mourn for him, and await the happy union promised to the faithful who die in the Lord. Fort Dodge Semi-Weekly Chronicle July 23, 1898 FUNERAL OF WESLEY PETERSON Large Number of Friends Attended from Here and Surrounding Towns The funeral of Wesley Peterson occurred Tuesday afternoon from the Swedish Lutheran church at Dayton. The ceremony was conducted in two languages, Rev. Christenson, of Dayton speaking in Swedish and Rev. Swanberg in English. The funeral was one of the most largely attended ever held in Dayton. Wesley Peterson possessed while living the blessed faculty of making friends and few men have ever been blessed with more friends than he. The special car from here carried about seventy-five people, while those from Dayton and the surrounding country greatly swelled the number of people who came to do that last sad honors for their friend. It had been his wish that his pall bearers should be from the two places which he called home and by his own request Messrs. Brickson, Lundahl and Alstrand from here with the two Swenson brothers and Luther Lindquist of Dayton, acted in that capacity His work is finished and in the opinion of those who knew him, it has been well done but the influence of the kindly genial Wesley Peterson will be not soon forgotten.
