However, it should be noted that her obituary found and transcribed below provides the birth date as being April 10, 1854. ------- Fairfield Tribune Fairfield, Iowa July 11, 1889 DEATH OF MRS. PHILLIP DOWNING Mrs. Phillip DOWNING, nee Minnie SNOOK, daughter of Henry SNOOK, an old settler of Jefferson county, was born in Fairfield township, April 10, 1854. In 1863 she moved with her parents to Penn township, near Perlee, where she has lived ever since. On the sixth of February, 1872, she was married to Mr. Phillip DOWNING, a farmer of the same township, who, with three children, survives her. She was a devoted Christian, and a kind friend to all who knew her. In January, 1888, she had a hemorrhage of the lungs which terminated in consumption; and after eighteen months' suffering finally causing her death on Sunday, July 7, at 2 o'clock the following day. Services were held at the Antioch church, and were conducted by Rev. McCartney. Her remains were followed to the cemetery by a large number of relatives and sympathizing friends.
